Payback: Wife Surprises Husband With Retirement on Last Day of Work

(ABC 6 News) — When former police officer Forrest “Frosty” Miller retired several years ago without telling his family, his wife Lois vowed to get even. Thursday, she surprised him with news of her own.
After 39 years and two months working in the business office of Drs. Elrod Green and Heimer’s dental clinic in Austin, she worked her last day Thursday– unbeknownst to her husband.
She said she made the decision to retire in February, due in part to the winter weather.
“That day when I shared with (my bosses) I was going to retire, I thought ‘I want to surprise my husband, that would be fun,'” she said. “I didn’t really know when he was going to retire so I thought ‘well it’s time to get even.'”
“It just seemed to me it was a low-key thing, it was not a big thing, I slowly faded away,” Forrest said of his retirement.
The couple’s kids were in on the plan and surprised them at the Austin Country Club, where they broke the news to Forrest.
“I don’t know how else to respond to it, they totally surprised me,” he said.
When asked if Lois had gotten her “revenge,” she said, “I think so. I think we totally surprised him tonight.”
Lois said she’s looking forward to sleeping in, traveling and spending time with friends and family.
